The Information Systems Department designs, implements, and manages information technology resources in support of the efficient operation of county government.

Functions:

Application Programming:

  • Meet with county departments to discuss new application systems.
  • Meet with county departments to discuss problems, system modification, and enhancements to existing application systems.
  • Analyze the workflow to determine computer programming needs or changes.
  • Design, code and test customized applications.
  • Analyzing and correcting application program problems.
  • Training for application systems developed by the Information Systems programmers. Answer questions about these systems.
  • Assistance with data transfer from one computer system to another computer system provided we have the necessary equipment needed for the transfer.
  • Assistance with purchased software selection, implementation, maintenance and support.
  • Creates technical documentation (user, operator, and programmer instructions).
  • Maintains archived data.

Computer Operations:

  • Runs cyclic and special request programs and reports.
  • Weekly backup of system.
  • Daily backup of computers located in the Information Systems Department.
  • Backup daily data on networked PC's.
  • Onsite / offsite storage locations of backup media.
  • Bursting and decollating of reports.
  • Assistance with loading paper, cartridges, and ribbons in printers.
  • Interacts with equipment vendors in the solution of network / hardware / software failures.
  • Monitors computer systems to ensure effective and efficient operation.
  • Service calls for repairs on computer equipment.

Consulting Services to County Offices:

  • Assistance in analyzing computer hardware, software and networking requirements.
  • Assistance in capacity planning.
  • Assistance in developing a backup / recovery plan.
  • Assistance with computer connectivity or communication solutions.
  • Provides guidance and assistance as needed for the resolution of operational or procedural problems related to Information Technology.
  • Database Administration, Security, and Standards.
  • Assistance with basic "how to" questions for software products.

Data Entry / Clerical:

  • Input information into computer by highly skilled data entry operators.
  • Prepare and code documents for computer input.
  • Create and maintain data entry instructions for all systems.
  • Data entry scheduling to meet deadlines; estimates time allotted to a project based on quantity.
  • Temporary floating clerical help in other county offices.

System Administration:

  • Installation of computer software on computers. Including software upgrades, and service packs.
  • Installation of computer hardware.
  • Software configuration and tuning.
  • Repair and troubleshooting of hardware and software problems on network equipment, PC's, printers, servers, midrange computers, and telephone/voice mail equipment. Interfaces with vendor support centers to resolve problems.
  • Monitoring of computer systems to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Designing and reviewing reports to monitor security and usage of computer systems.
  • Internet: Firewall Management, set up access, block sites, create reports monitoring usage of Internet by machine, or user.
  • Anti-Virus maintenance and control.
  • Network Directory Services, File Storage and Security.
  • E-Mail Administrator for County Post Office.

Telephones/Switchboard:

  • Answers operator ("0") telephone calls and gives instructions on how to dial to reach the requested office.
  • Locates personnel and relays messages, answer inquiries when possible.
  • Keeps up-to-date directories of extensions in offices.
  • Installation of telephones and related equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairs hardware and software problems on telephone/voice mail equipment. Interface with vendor to resolve problems.
  • Maintains telephone usage logs, 911 locator database, and telephone record database. Create telephone activity reports on request.
