Emergency Notification System

Rock Island County residents can now register their phone and email in a new emergency notification service. The Rock Island County Emergency Telephone System Board has recently launched a new emergency notification service that allows Public Safety officials to alert Rock Island County residents to emergencies in their area. The system uses listed phone numbers from the telephone white pages.  If you do not have a landline telephone and are not listed in the telephone book you are not currently in this system. You may now enter other ways of contacting you, such as cell phones, business phones, and email. The information you enter is protected and will not be used for any other purpose.

When Public Safety officials issue a message concerning a potential safety hazard or concern, messages will be sent to all standard voice and text communication devices you have registered, including landline phones, cell phones, e-mail, and more. You can receive notifications about emergencies that may affect your home, your parents' home, your workplace, and your child's school, as long as those locations are within the boundaries of Rock Island County.

You will be prompted to confirm receipt of the message by pressing #1. If the system does not receive a confirmation from the first contact number it will attempt to reach your second contact number or email. The system will continue trying to contact you until it receives a confirmation from you.

To add your contact information to the emergency notification system, please go to the Law Enforcement section of your City’s website or Rock Island County’s website under the Sheriff’s Department and follow the link to “Rock Island County Notification System.”  Residents and businesses with listed telephone numbers have already been included in the system.  All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential

The system will be used to notify residents about imminent threats to health and safety. Public safety officials will also send alerts about emergencies such as Flood Alerts, Water Outages/Boil Orders, Crime Patterns and Community Alerts.

You may change your information or opt-out of the alert at any time by updating your profile online. If your landline telephone number changes, it will be automatically updated. Cell phone users must manage their contact information online if they change numbers.

Online registration is required for this service. If you do not have computer you may stop by any local library and use one of their computers to register your information.

Online registration is currently available. Although listed telephone numbers are in the system it is strongly recommended that each residence and business owner enter their contact information into the system to ensure emergency notifications are properly received.

Future testing of the Rock Island Notification System is planned throughout Rock Island County.  The testing date and time will be announced in early 2012.

If you have additional questions or need other assistance you may contact Stacy Deporter at the Rock Island County Emergency Telephone System Board (309) 793-1900.
