Special Statement from the Chief County Assessment Official Regarding the Renewal of Certain Homestead Exemptions

Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Due to the health concerns of senior citizens and individuals with disabilities as it relates to COVID-19, on Friday, June 5th, Governor Pritzker signed Senate Bill 685 into law (Public Act 101-635).

Under this new law, if a taxpayer was granted a Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze, Veterans with Disabilities, or Persons with Disabilities Homestead exemption in 2019, the exemption would be automatically renewed as long as the County has declared a local disaster as provided in the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act related to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Thanks to Chairman Brunk’s declaration on March 16, 2020, the Rock Island County Supervisor of Assessments Office is proud to serve our community and offer this benefit to those that qualify.

This legislation applies exclusively to the 2020 assessment year. Applicants will need to reapply for these exemptions on an annual basis again beginning in 2021. If you have any questions please contact the Supervisor of Assessments Office at 309-558-3660 or email Larry Wilson ([email protected]) Click to send e-mail
